DGCA issues Safety Alert for Airbus A320 Family

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a mandatory safety directive for Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 aircraft.

The regulator has made it clear that no aircraft in this category will be allowed to fly unless it meets updated safety standards.

Airlines have been instructed to update compliance records and ensure inspection or modification of specific components as listed in the Mandatory Modification List.

This step is aimed at keeping passengers and crew safe.

Why the Update is Needed

Airbus recently discovered that intense solar radiation could affect critical flight-control data on some A320 aircraft.

To fix this, a software update has been released.

Newer aircraft can receive the update in about 30 minutes, while older models may require extra hardware work, taking longer.

In India, over 350 aircraft from IndiGo and Air India are affected.

Airlines expect some operational delays while the update is installed, but normal flight schedules should resume within a couple of days.

Aircraft and Global Impact

The update affects a wide range of Airbus models, including variants of A319, A320, and A321.

Globally, around 6,000 A320 family aircraft need the software update.

Air India has assured passengers that safety is the top priority.

Engineers are working round-the-clock, and over 40% of aircraft have already been updated.

While some flights may see minor delays, the airline states there have been no cancellations and passengers are advised to check flight status online before traveling.
