The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the country over the next few days.
According to the latest bulletin, five cyclonic circulation systems are currently active, increasing the chances of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and possible flooding in several states.
States such as West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the next three to four days.
Five Cyclonic Systems Driving the Weather
The IMD said five cyclonic circulation systems are influencing the country’s weather.
These systems are currently located over Haryana and nearby areas, northeast Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, southwest Rajasthan, the west-central Bay of Bengal near coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Arabian Sea.
Because of these weather systems, heavy rainfall is expected across northwest and northeast India for the next four to five days.
Meanwhile, southern peninsular India and west-central India are likely to see relatively less rainfall over the coming week.
Extremely Heavy Rain Alert in These States
The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Gilgit-Baltistan from July 21 to 24.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive heavy rainfall between July 21 and July 27.
States including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya are also under a torrential rain alert.
The department has cautioned that continuous rainfall could increase the risk of floods, landslides, and other rain-related disasters.
Red and Orange Alerts Issued
The weather department has issued a Red Alert for Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.
An Orange Alert has been issued for:
Uttarakhand
Western Uttar Pradesh
Punjab
Haryana
Delhi
Madhya Pradesh
Eastern Rajasthan
Chhattisgarh
Maharashtra
Odisha
The IMD has also predicted widespread rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab from July 21 to 23.
Heavy rain is also likely in western Uttar Pradesh from July 21 to 24 and eastern Rajasthan from July 23 to 27.
Delhi-NCR to Get Relief From Heat
The weather is expected to change in Delhi-NCR as well.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Delhi, with heavy rain possible at a few locations. Strong winds of up to 50 kmph may also accompany the showers.
The rainfall is expected to bring down daytime temperatures to around 31°C to 33°C, offering relief from the recent heat. Air quality has also improved after overnight rain.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6°C, while the maximum is expected to remain around 32°C.
Thunderstorms and Lightning Warning
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in several states over the coming days.
Lightning is likely in Uttarakhand from July 21 to 26, western Uttar Pradesh on July 21 and 22, eastern Uttar Pradesh from July 21 onward, western Rajasthan on July 25 and 26, and eastern Rajasthan on July 26.
Thunderstorms are also expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on July 21, while Himachal Pradesh may witness lightning on July 21 and again between July 23 and 25.
People living in areas under heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts are advised to stay updated with the latest IMD forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone or landslide-prone locations.
