Cyber fraud cases are growing quickly across the country, with scammers constantly finding new ways to deceive people.
In response, the government has intensified efforts to combat these frauds.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has instructed telecom operators to take strict steps to secure the data of their SIM card users.
How This Will Help Telecom Customers
This move by the government aims to protect customers of major telecom companies like Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, Airtel, and BSNL from scammers, reducing their concerns.
The new SIM card-related regulations are expected to go into effect today, November 1.
Government’s New Rules to Stop Fake Calls and Messages
To curb fake calls and messages, the government has revised the rules.
TRAI has directed telecom operators to take action against fraudulent calls and messages, which are commonly used by scammers to empty people’s bank accounts.
Under the new rules, telecom operators will screen calls and messages before they reach customers.
By identifying certain keywords or suspicious patterns, they can block these fraudulent messages and calls immediately.
Additionally, if SIM card users report any suspicious messages or calls, telecom operators will block those numbers promptly.
This model is expected to be fully operational soon, providing stronger safeguards against fraud.
