Spotify Lyrics Feature May Soon Require Premium Subscription

For Spotify enthusiasts, an unwelcome change is on the horizon. Swedish music giant Spotify is gearing up to incentivize its users to embrace the company’s premium service.

As part of this strategy, access to song lyrics within the app may soon require a subscription to Spotify Premium.

Currently, the company is testing this lyrics feature as a premium service, leading to a paywall for some users seeking lyrics below the songs they’re enjoying.

Let’s delve into how Spotify is transitioning this feature to its premium service.

Price Hike for Premium Subscriptions:

In a significant move, Spotify announced in July its plans to increase premium subscription prices across various markets worldwide.

In the US, the Premium Individual plan saw an increase from $9.99 to $10.99, while the Premium Duo plan surged from $12.99 to $14.99.

Furthermore, the premium family plan now stands at $16.99, up from $15.99. There are expectations of a future price increase for the student plan from $4.99 to $5.99.

Growing User Base:

Spotify’s latest report reveals an impressive growth in its user base.

The company’s ad-supported level has seen a 34 percent increase in monthly users compared to the previous year, reaching 343 million monthly users.

Additionally, the monthly paid audience has expanded by 17 percent, reaching 220 million users.

This surge in user numbers demonstrates Spotify’s continued popularity despite the changes to its pricing structure.
