WhatsApp has introduced several new features to make calling easier and more convenient. The biggest update is that users can now make audio and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web.
Earlier, users had to install the WhatsApp Desktop app for calling on a computer. Now, calls can be made straight from a web browser without downloading any extra software.
The company has also announced new features like Call Transfer, Waiting Room, QuickHD Video, and Noise Suppression. These updates will roll out to users worldwide over the next few weeks.
Make Audio and Video Calls Directly on WhatsApp Web
The new Web Calling feature allows users to make both one-to-one and group audio or video calls directly from their browser.
This is especially useful for people who cannot install the WhatsApp Desktop app on their office or personal computer.
Users will also get screen sharing, emoji reactions during calls, and a dedicated Calls tab to access recent calls, favorites, and call history.
WhatsApp says there is no time limit on web calls, no extra charges, and all calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption.
Switch Calls Between Devices with Call Transfer
WhatsApp has also introduced Call Transfer, making it easier to move an ongoing call from one device to another.
For example, if you start a call on your smartphone, you can continue the same call on your laptop or desktop without disconnecting.
This feature is designed for users who regularly switch between multiple devices during the day.
Waiting Room Gives Hosts More Control
Managing group calls is now easier with the new Waiting Room feature.
When creating a WhatsApp Call Link, the host can enable the “Require approval to join” option. Anyone joining through the link will first enter a virtual waiting room.
They can join the call only after the host approves their request.
This gives hosts better control over who enters the group call.
QuickHD and Noise Suppression Improve Call Quality
WhatsApp has also improved video calling with the new QuickHD feature.
Instead of waiting for the video quality to improve after the call starts, users will get HD-quality video much faster, making conversations clearer from the beginning.
Another new addition is Noise Suppression, which helps reduce unwanted background noise during calls. This makes voice and video calls clearer, especially when you’re in a noisy environment.
