The central government has taken a big decision related to air travel.

The plan to make 60% of flight seats free has now been put on hold for the time being.

This decision has been delayed after strong objections from airlines and industry groups.

Let’s understand what this means for passengers.

Free Seat Plan Put on Hold

Earlier, the government had asked airlines to offer at least 60% seats free of charge (like free seat selection) on every flight to give relief to passengers.

However, airlines opposed this move.

They said it would increase their costs and disturb their pricing system.

Now, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to pause this rule until further review.

This means passengers will still have to pay for seat selection just like before.

Why Did the Government Plan This?

The government had taken this step due to rising fuel costs.

The price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has been increasing because of global issues, especially tensions in the Middle East.

Higher crude oil prices have made air travel more expensive.

To reduce the burden on passengers, the government planned to offer some relief through free seat options.

Fuel Prices Increase Adds More Pressure

At the same time, the government has allowed a 25% increase in ATF prices on domestic routes, which is around ₹15 per litre.

This increase will be implemented in phases.

However, for international flights, airlines will have to pay the full increased price immediately.

Impact on Common People

The rise in fuel prices will not just affect flight tickets.

It can also make goods transported by air more expensive, such as:

Medicines

Electronics

Other essential items

This means the overall cost for common people may go up in the coming days.

What It Means for You

For now, there is no change in seat charges while booking flights.

At the same time, rising fuel costs may lead to higher ticket prices and expensive goods, which could impact your travel and daily expenses.
