Traveling in taxis, cabs, and auto-rickshaws could soon become much safer in Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh Police have launched a new QR code-based safety system in the NTR district that lets passengers verify vehicle and driver details before starting a trip.
The project was developed by G. Srinivas Reddy, a fourth-year engineering student at Mohan Babu University (MBU), along with his startup SAS Electronics LLP, in partnership with the NTR district traffic police.
Scan the QR Code Before Your Ride
Every registered taxi, cab, and auto-rickshaw now has a unique QR code sticker placed behind the driver’s seat.
Passengers can scan the QR code using their smartphone to instantly view:
Vehicle registration number
Driver identity
Driving licence details
Trip information
If the details shown do not match the actual vehicle or driver, passengers can report it to the police immediately. This helps identify fake taxis and unauthorized drivers.
Live Tracking for Faster Police Help
One of the biggest features of the system is real-time tracking.
Once the QR code is scanned, the passenger’s live location is securely shared with the police control room and nearby patrol teams during the journey.
If there is an emergency, unsafe driving, or any suspicious activity, police can quickly track the vehicle and send the nearest patrol team for assistance.

The new system offers much more than vehicle verification. It also includes:
Driver authentication
Live location sharing
Passenger feedback
Driver complaint and rating records
These features create a complete digital safety network for public transport.
First Phase Covers 6,000 Vehicles
In the first phase, QR code stickers are being installed on around 6,000 auto-rickshaws, taxis, cabs, and rental vehicles in the NTR district.
If the project is successful, the Andhra Pradesh Police may expand it to other districts and eventually to other states across India.
