Passengers travelling on Mumbai’s busy suburban trains are set to get a major upgrade.

From February 19, on the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Western Railway will introduce 12 additional AC local train services along with three new non-AC services.

The aim is simple: offer more comfort while still keeping travel affordable for everyone.

More AC Trains, Less Congestion

AC local trains have become increasingly popular among daily commuters.

To meet this growing demand, Western Railway is expanding its AC services.

With this update:

Total AC services will rise from 121 to 133

11 existing non-AC services will be converted into AC

1 completely new AC service will be added

At the same time, three new non-AC services will also start, ensuring affordable options remain available.

Overall, the total number of local train services on the Western Railway network will increase from 1,410 to 1,414.

This expansion is expected to reduce overcrowding and make daily travel more comfortable.

Big Boost for Weekend Travellers

Weekend passengers will see a major benefit from this change.

The number of AC services running on Saturdays and Sundays will increase from 77 to 106.

This means more capacity and better comfort for those travelling for work, shopping, or leisure.

In another helpful move, a slow local train that currently runs between Bhayander and Bandra will now also operate on Sundays.

This will improve connectivity and make weekend travel smoother for many commuters.

A Balanced Approach for All Passengers

Western Railway says the goal is to strike the right balance.

While AC trains are in high demand, affordable non-AC options remain essential for lakhs of daily commuters.

By adding both AC and non-AC services, the railway is trying to create a more inclusive travel system.

For Mumbai’s suburban passengers, this could mean shorter waits, less crowding, and a more comfortable journey starting February 19.
