Passengers travelling on Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) tickets in AC coaches have received good news.
The Railway Board has announced that RAC passengers will now be given a complete bedroll kit, just like passengers with confirmed tickets.
The new rule applies to all air-conditioned classes except AC Chair Car and has come into effect immediately.
RAC Passengers Will No Longer Have to Share Bedrolls
Earlier, many RAC passengers complained that they either did not receive a complete bedroll kit or were asked to share blankets and other bedding with another passenger.
Several complaints were filed through railway helplines about missing blankets, pillows, or bedsheets.
Despite repeated complaints, the issue continued on many trains.
Taking these complaints seriously, the Railway Board has now made it mandatory to provide every RAC passenger with a separate bedroll kit.
What Will RAC Passengers Get?
Under the new order, every RAC passenger travelling in eligible AC coaches will receive a complete bedroll kit, which includes:
Bedsheets
Blanket
Pillow and other standard bedding items
This means RAC passengers will now enjoy the same travel comfort as passengers with confirmed reservations.
Order Effective Across the Country
The Railway Board issued the instructions to all zonal railways on August 4, 2026, asking them to implement the new arrangement immediately.
Railway officials have also been directed to inform all concerned departments, including IRCTC, and ensure strict compliance with the order.
The decision is expected to benefit millions of RAC passengers travelling in AC coaches across India.
What If You Don’t Receive a Bedroll?
The Railway Board has made it clear that every RAC passenger in eligible AC coaches must receive a full bedroll kit.
There should be no discrimination between RAC and confirmed passengers when it comes to this facility.
If a passenger does not receive the required bedroll, they can register a complaint through the railway helpline.
The Railways has assured that such complaints will be addressed and the new rules will be enforced properly.
