The Election Department has given a major relief to voters amid confusion over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
Many people were worried about not having the required documents for verification.
However, officials have now clarified that if the prescribed documents are unavailable, voters can also use their Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, or Ayushman Card as supporting documents during the verification process.
This decision is expected to help lakhs of voters who have been visiting government offices to collect old records.
No Need to Panic if You Receive an SIR Notice
Across the state, many people have been reaching booth-level SIR camps and election offices with their documents. A common misunderstanding is that their names will be deleted from the voter list if they cannot produce the required documents.
Election officials have cleared the confusion.
They said the purpose of the SIR campaign is not to remove the names of eligible voters. Instead, the exercise is being carried out to make the voter list more accurate, updated, and free from errors.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRCC Purushottam said that if the prescribed documents are not available, the verification process can still continue using Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, or Ayushman Card.
Voters who receive a notice should contact their Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the concerned election office within the given time and complete the verification.
What Do ‘Mapped’ and ‘Unmapped’ Mean?
The terms “mapped” and “unmapped” have created confusion among many voters during the SIR process.
According to the Election Department, a mapped voter is someone whose records have already been verified and linked with the correct address, family, or polling station.
An unmapped voter, on the other hand, is someone whose records are still pending verification or whose identity has not yet been linked because of technical or document-related reasons.
Officials have made it clear that being an unmapped voter does not mean your name will be removed from the voter list.
It simply means you need to complete the verification by submitting the required documents.
What Should Voters Do?
If you have received an SIR notice, follow these simple steps:
Do not ignore the notice.
Visit your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the nearest SIR centre within the given deadline.
Carry any of the prescribed documents available with you.
If you do not have those documents, take your Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, or Ayushman Card as supporting proof.
Do not worry about whether your status is mapped or unmapped.
The most important step is to complete your verification on time.
