BMW is all set to launch the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India on August 21.
The new SUV is a stretched version of the standard BMW X1 and will become the brand’s most affordable long-wheelbase petrol SUV in the country.
The X1 LWB has already been on sale in China since 2023. With more cabin space, a larger boot, and a more powerful engine, BMW is aiming to offer a premium experience for buyers who want extra comfort.
Bigger Than the Standard BMW X1
The biggest highlight of the X1 LWB is its larger size.
The SUV measures 4,616mm in length, making it 116mm longer than the regular X1.
Its wheelbase has also been increased by 110mm, giving rear passengers significantly more legroom.
The vehicle is also 11mm taller, adding to the spacious feel inside the cabin.
In terms of design, the SUV retains the familiar BMW styling with sleek LED headlights, LED tail-lamps, the signature kidney grille, and a sporty crossover look.
While the China-spec model comes with 19-inch wheels as standard, BMW is expected to offer 18-inch wheels in India to improve ride comfort.
More Space and Premium Features Inside
The cabin layout remains similar to the standard X1, but rear-seat comfort has been improved.
Passengers in the second row get extra legroom, seats that are 27mm higher, and wider headrests for better support.
Boot space has also increased from 476 litres in the standard X1 to 540 litres, making it more practical for family trips.

More Powerful Engine Expected
Unlike the regular X1 sold in India, the Long Wheelbase version is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
The engine produces 204hp and 300Nm of torque, making it considerably more powerful than the standard petrol X1.
It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Internationally, the front-wheel-drive version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive version completes the sprint in 7.7 seconds.
The top speed is rated at 229 km/h.
Expected Price in India
The standard BMW X1 is currently priced between ₹50.9 lakh and ₹52.9 lakh (ex-showroom).
Since the Long Wheelbase model offers more space, additional features, and a more powerful engine, it is expected to be priced higher.
Once launched, the BMW X1 LWB will have a unique position in the Indian market, as there is currently no other entry-level luxury SUV with a long-wheelbase option available in the country.
