Delhi residents will no longer need to remember multiple emergency numbers.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the city is moving to a single emergency helpline number – 112, in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ national emergency system.
With one call to 112, citizens can get help from police, fire services, ambulance, and disaster management teams at the same time, depending on the situation.
Help Available Even Without Speaking
The new system allows people to seek help in multiple ways.
Assistance can be requested through a phone call, mobile app, emergency button, SMS, or online platform.
This ensures that even if someone is unable to speak during an emergency, they can still send a distress signal quickly and easily.
What Is ERSS 2.0?
The unified emergency system is called ERSS 2.0 (Emergency Response Support System).
It comes with a modern control room dashboard that shows real-time details such as:
Where the incident has occurred
Which emergency vehicle has been sent
How long it will take to reach the location
All emergency signals—calls, app alerts, panic buttons, SMS, and web requests—will be received at a single Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
Faster Response During Emergencies
As soon as an alert is received, the system automatically detects the caller’s location.
This removes the need for victims to explain where they are.
The nearest police vehicle, ambulance, or fire tender is dispatched immediately.
This saves precious time during the golden hour, the first 60 minutes after an emergency, when quick help is most critical.
If there is any delay, an alternative vehicle can be sent right away, ensuring better monitoring and accountability.
Phased Rollout Plan
The new emergency system will be implemented in phases. In the first phase, all existing emergency numbers will be merged into 112.
Later phases will focus on technical upgrades, public awareness campaigns, staff training, and a final evaluation of the system.
Once fully rolled out, a single call to 112 will be enough to alert all emergency services, making Delhi’s response system faster, smarter, and more reliable.
