Windows PC users have received a major security warning from the Indian government, specifically concerning the motherboards that power their systems.

The alert, issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) in December 2025, affects popular brands like Asus, MSI, AMD, Gigabyte, and ASRock, putting millions of users at potential risk.

The key message: be cautious and update your system to stay safe.

CERT-In Warns About Motherboard Vulnerabilities

According to the CERT-In bulletin dated December 24, 2025, the vulnerabilities exist due to improper enforcement of DMA protections during the early boot phase.

This flaw could allow a local attacker with physical access to exploit a malicious PCIe device, gaining unauthorized access to system memory before the operating system even loads.

While this sounds technical, the practical takeaway is simple: your PC could be at risk even before Windows starts, making it important for everyone—from home users to businesses—to act fast.

Affected Motherboard Brands and Models

The alert lists the following motherboards as vulnerable:

ASRock: Intel 500, 600, 700, 800 series

ASUS: Intel Z490, W480, B460, H410, Z590, B560, H510, Z690, B660, W680, Z790, B760, W790 series

GIGABYTE: Intel Z890, W880, Q870, B860, H810, Z790, B760, Z690, Q670, B660, H610, W790 series

AMD: Intel X870E, X870, B850, B840, X670, B650, A620, A620A series

MSI: Intel 600 and 700 series

What Users Should Do

All the companies listed have been informed of the issue, and software patches are already available.

If your PC uses any of these motherboards, visit the manufacturer’s support page and install the latest updates immediately.

Major alerts for chipsets are rare, but when they occur, they must be taken seriously.

Ignoring this warning could leave your PC vulnerable to attacks even before the operating system loads.
