Tax planning isn’t just about saving money—it’s also about staying on time.

Following a proper tax calendar helps you avoid penalties and keeps your finances in order.

Under the Income-tax Act, several key deadlines fall in May 2026 that taxpayers should not ignore.

Let’s break them down in a simple way.

May 7: First Deadline You Should Know

The first important date is May 7.

By this day, you must deposit TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) or TCS (Tax Collected at Source) for April 2026.

For government offices that don’t use a challan, the payment must be made on the same day.

There’s one more task for this date. Buyers who want to avoid TCS on certain purchases must file a declaration under Section 394(2).

May 15: Multiple Tasks to Complete

Mid-May is the busiest time for tax compliance.

By May 15, you need to issue TDS certificates for March 2026 deductions.

These include:

Property transactions (Section 194-IA)

Rent payments by individuals (Section 194-IB)

Payments to contractors or professionals (Section 194M)

Government offices must also submit Form 24G if they deposited tax without a challan in April.

Stock exchanges and recognised associations need to report client code changes made in April transactions.

Another key task is filing the quarterly TCS statement for the quarter ending March 31, 2026.

May 30: Final Deadline of the Month

The last major deadline is May 30.

By this date, businesses must issue TCS certificates for the last quarter of FY 2025–26.

Certain entities must also submit annual statements under Section 285B for the previous financial year.

Additionally, taxpayers need to file a challan-cum-statement for tax deducted under Section 393(1) for April transactions.

Why These Dates Matter

Missing these deadlines can lead to penalties, interest charges, and even notices from tax authorities.

This is especially important for businesses, professionals, and individuals dealing with property, rent, or high-value transactions.

Stay Ahead with Simple Planning

The easiest way to stay stress-free is to track these dates in advance.

A simple reminder or checklist can help you avoid last-minute pressure and keep your tax compliance smooth throughout the year.

Staying organised now can save you from bigger problems later.
