In a surprising move, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has unveiled a paid subscription plan that offers an ad-free experience for users in Europe.
Speculation had been rife for some time that Mark Zuckerberg was considering such a development, and now the company has indeed taken this step.
However, it’s important to note that this subscription option will be exclusively available to European users due to pressure from the European Union.
What’s the Cost?
The ad-free plans are priced at 9.99 Euro per month (approximately Rs 885) for the web version and 12.99 Euro per month (approximately Rs 1,145) for smartphone users on both Android and iOS.
Meta has specified that these plans will be accessible to users aged 18 and above in the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland.
What About Users in India?
For now, users in India will continue to encounter ads on their Instagram feed.
However, if these subscription plans gain popularity in the EU, Meta may consider extending this service to India as well.
The subscription price may be a point of contention for some, but it’s an appealing option for those seeking an ad-free Facebook and Instagram experience.
This means no ads in your feed, allowing you to focus more on content from your friends and family.
Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized that he believes advertising can be beneficial for both users and the company, representing a key avenue for growth.
