If you have a Post Office Savings Account, Recurring Deposit (RD), or a Sukanya Samriddhi Account for your daughter, there is an important update for you.
The Department of Posts has introduced new rules that make deposits and withdrawals easier through Aadhaar-based biometric verification.
At the same time, some conditions have also been added for secure transactions.
The goal of this new system is to reduce paperwork and make banking faster, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
Aadhaar-Based Deposits and Withdrawals Made Easier
Under the new system, customers can now use Aadhaar biometric authentication instead of filling out forms and pay-in slips.
This means transactions will become much quicker and simpler.
Now, you can:
Deposit up to ₹50,000 in a single transaction without a pay-in slip
Use Aadhaar verification for deposits in POSA, RD, and Sukanya Samriddhi accounts
Withdraw up to ₹20,000 from a Post Office Savings Account without a withdrawal slip
However, this facility is available only for single-holder accounts. Joint accounts and minor accounts are not included in this simplified process.
Transactions From Any Post Office Branch
The postal department has also introduced “branch interoperability.” Earlier, customers could only transact from their home branch post office.
Now, after Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification, they can use any branch post office across India.
This change will benefit people who travel or live away from their home branch.
However, users without Aadhaar verification will still be restricted to their home branch only.
For high-value transactions above the set limits, the old paper-based process will still be required, including forms and approvals.
Mobile Number Now Mandatory From 2026
The new system is being run through the DREAM mobile app at branch post offices.
To make it more secure, the postal department has made mobile number linking mandatory.
From September 1, 2026, customers without a registered mobile number will not be able to use Aadhaar-based services or make transactions through the app.
Linking a mobile number will be necessary to continue using digital post office banking services.
These changes are aimed at improving security, reducing fraud, and making post office banking more modern and convenient.
