In Uttar Pradesh, new rules have been introduced for property registration that directly affect buyers and sellers.

The state registration department has clarified that Aadhaar card will now be used only as proof of identity and address, not as proof of family relationships.

This change means that details like parents’ or spouse’s names mentioned on Aadhaar will no longer be accepted as legal proof of relationship during property registration.

Aadhaar No Longer Valid for Family Proof

According to the order issued by Inspector General of Registration Neha Sharma, Aadhaar can confirm who you are and where you live, but it cannot be used to prove family ties.

Earlier, many people used Aadhaar details to establish relationships between legal heirs or family members during property transactions.

That practice will no longer be valid under the new rules.

Instead, applicants will need to submit proper legal documents when family relationships must be verified.

Which Documents Are Now Required

To prove family relationships in property registration cases, buyers and sellers will now need to provide official documents such as:

Birth certificates

Family register copies

Inheritance or succession-related records

Other government-approved documents

Any application, deed, or property-related file that requires relationship verification will now be checked using these documents instead of Aadhaar.

What Property Buyers Should Do Now

With these new rules, property buyers must ensure they have updated and valid documents ready before visiting registry offices.

Aadhaar alone will not be enough for completing the process.

Officials have introduced this change after UIDAI clarified that Aadhaar is meant only for identity and address verification, not for proving relationships.

This update is important for anyone involved in property transactions, as missing documents could delay registration work.
