Sending parcels by train is often considered a convenient and affordable option.
But if you are planning to send or receive a parcel from Delhi, there is an important update you should know.
Ahead of Independence Day on August 15, security arrangements at several Delhi railway stations have been tightened.
As part of these security measures, parcel booking and handling will remain suspended at five major railway stations from August 12 to August 15.
Which Railway Stations Are Affected?
The temporary restriction will apply to these five stations:
New Delhi Railway Station
Delhi Junction
Anand Vihar Terminal
Delhi Sarai Rohilla
Hazrat Nizamuddin Junction
During this period, both parcel booking and parcel handling will be stopped at these stations.
However, there is an important point for train passengers.
The restriction does not apply to personal luggage that passengers carry with them while travelling by train.
So, if you are travelling during these dates, you can still carry your personal belongings as usual.
Leased SLR and Other Parcel Services Also Suspended
The restriction is not limited to regular parcels.
The handling of Leased SLR, VP and Demand VP will also remain suspended from August 12 to August 15.
Therefore, anyone planning to send goods through these services should check the availability of parcel facilities before visiting the railway station.
This temporary restriction is being implemented as part of heightened security arrangements around Independence Day.
What If You Need to Send a Parcel Urgently?
If your parcel needs to be sent between August 12 and August 15, you don’t necessarily have to wait.
You can consider alternatives such as India Post or private courier companies like DTDC, Trackon and Blue Dart.
For large or bulky consignments, private transport services may also be an option.
However, if the parcel is not urgent, the simplest option may be to wait until August 16, when the temporary restriction is expected to end.
Before heading to a railway station to send a parcel, it is advisable to confirm whether parcel services have resumed to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
