The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning a major redesign of the physical Aadhaar card to prevent misuse of personal information.

According to reports, the new card will only display the holder’s photograph and a QR code, removing other sensitive details from the visible print.

This move aims to stop the improper use of Aadhaar photocopies, which currently reveal information like your full name, address, date of birth, and Aadhaar number.

Authorities have reportedly been working on this redesign since last year.

How the New Aadhaar System Will Work

Under the proposed system, scanning the QR code on the Aadhaar card will allow banks, telecom companies, and government agencies to verify a person’s identity securely.

This keeps personal details hidden from casual view while maintaining the card’s role as a valid photo ID.

UIDAI has already taken steps toward this privacy-focused approach in its upgraded Aadhaar mobile app.

The app now shows only the cardholder’s photograph and QR code, hiding all other personal details.

Users can also update their mobile number, address, and other information directly through the app without visiting an Aadhaar center.

Extra Security Features in the Aadhaar App

The app also allows users to lock or unlock their Aadhaar-linked biometric data instantly with a single tap.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed that new guidelines are being prepared to curb Aadhaar photocopy misuse.

Aadhaar is a key identity document in India, used for bank accounts, SIM cards, and government schemes.

By limiting the visible information on physical cards and securing personal data in the app, UIDAI aims to protect residents’ privacy and reduce identity theft risks.
