Google Chrome users are facing a new security warning in 2026.
This time, the alert has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
While the risk level is marked as medium, experts warn that such issues should not be ignored, especially when millions of users depend on Chrome for daily browsing and work.
With Chrome increasingly integrating AI features like Gemini, even a small security flaw can put user data at risk.
What Is the Chrome Security Issue?
According to CERT-In, the problem is linked to a security restriction bypass vulnerability in Google Chrome.
This issue occurs due to weak policy enforcement in the browser’s WebView component.
If exploited, the vulnerability could allow attackers to bypass built-in security controls.
This means hackers may gain unauthorized access to sensitive data stored or accessed through the browser.
Both individual users and organizations that rely on Chrome could be affected if the flaw is not fixed.
Who Is at Risk?
CERT-In has warned that users running older versions of Google Chrome on different operating systems are vulnerable.
The affected versions include:
Google Chrome versions before 143.0.7499.192 on Linux
Google Chrome versions before 143.0.7499.192 or .193 on macOS
Google Chrome versions before 143.0.7499.192 or .193 on Windows
If your Chrome version is older than these, your system could be exposed to security risks.
What You Should Do Right Now
Google has already released security patches to fix the issue.
Users are strongly advised to update Chrome immediately.
To update your browser, open Chrome and go to the three-dot menu, then select Settings, click on About, and choose Update Chrome.
the browser once the update is complete.
Keeping your browser updated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your personal data and stay safe online.
