Chrome users on Windows, Mac, and Linux have been issued a high-severity warning by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).

The alert, released on December 19, 2025, highlights a dangerous vulnerability in Google Chrome that can be exploited remotely, putting millions of users at risk.

What the Chrome Security Issue Is

According to CERT-In, multiple vulnerabilities exist in Chrome due to out-of-bounds read/write in V8 and use-after-free in WebGPU.

Attackers can exploit these weaknesses by tricking users into visiting malicious or specially crafted webpages.

The affected versions include:

Windows: Versions prior to 143.0.7499.146/.147

Mac: Versions prior to 143.0.7499.146/.147

Linux: Versions prior to 143.0.7499.146

Anyone using these versions, whether individuals or organizations, could be targeted.

The risk of a remote attack makes this a serious concern.

How to Update Chrome on Windows or Mac

The quickest way to protect yourself is to update Chrome immediately. Follow these steps:

Open Chrome and click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.

Go to Help > About Google Chrome.

Chrome will automatically check for updates and install the latest version.

Keeping Chrome updated ensures that these vulnerabilities are patched and reduces the risk of attacks.

Why This Update Matters

Google has released detailed notes explaining the vulnerabilities and how the update addresses them.

Updating your browser not only protects you from remote exploits but also ensures smoother, safer browsing.

Staying vigilant and updating Chrome regularly is the best way to safeguard your data and devices from potential hackers.
