Thailand, one of the favorite international destinations for Indian tourists, is once again making headlines.

Known for its beautiful beaches, shopping streets, and famous nightlife, the country attracts millions of visitors every year.

But now, Thailand is preparing to make major changes to its visa policy.

The Thai government is planning to reduce the current 60-day visa-free stay to just 30 days for many foreign travelers.

This move comes as authorities try to control the rising misuse of tourist visas and increasing crimes involving foreign nationals.

Why Thailand Is Changing Its Visa Rules

According to Thai officials, several incidents involving foreign tourists have been reported in recent months.

These include theft, public misconduct, visa overstays, and illegal business operations.

Authorities say that some foreigners were staying in Thailand for extended periods and running businesses without proper permission.

The government is also concerned that international criminal groups may be taking advantage of relaxed immigration rules.

Because of this, Thailand has decided to make its immigration system stricter and more controlled.

93 Countries Earlier Enjoyed 60-Day Visa-Free Entry

Until now, travelers from 93 countries could enter Thailand without a visa and stay for up to 60 days.

This list included countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and several European nations.

Under the proposed changes, the visa-free stay period will likely be reduced to 30 days.

Thailand may also reduce the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry, although the updated list has not been officially released yet.

Visa Extension Will Not Be Easy Anymore

The Thai government has clarified that tourists can still request a one-time visa extension if they need to stay longer.

However, visitors will now have to provide a proper reason for extending their stay.

Immigration officers will review each request carefully before making a final decision.

This means tourists may face stricter checks and approval processes compared to before.

What It Means for Indian Tourists

Indian travelers currently enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for up to 60 days under the latest policy changes introduced earlier.

If the new rules are implemented, the visa-free stay for Indians could return to the earlier 30-day limit.

At the moment, Thailand has not confirmed whether India will continue to remain on the visa-free entry list.

For travelers planning short vacations, the impact may not be very large.

However, those planning long stays may need to rethink their travel plans.

Thailand’s Economy Still Depends Heavily on Tourism

Thailand earns a large part of its revenue from tourism.

The industry contributes significantly to the country’s economy and GDP.

Government spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek said that while tourists are important for Thailand, some people were misusing the existing system.

Tourism in Thailand has still not fully recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rising airfares and global tensions have also affected international travel.

Because of this, the Thai government now wants to maintain a balance between promoting tourism and improving security.
