Nissan India is finally preparing to expand its SUV lineup in the Indian market.

For a long time, the company has mainly depended on the Nissan Magnite, while the recently launched 7-seater Gravit added a new option for buyers.

Now, Nissan is ready to bring its much-awaited midsize SUV — the Nissan Tecton.

The company has officially confirmed that the new Tecton SUV will launch on July 9.

Earlier, the SUV was expected to arrive after the Renault Duster launch planned for February 4, but the timeline was delayed due to various reasons.

The upcoming Tecton will be based on the Renault Duster platform but will get several styling and feature changes to create a different identity in the market.

Nissan Tecton Will Rival Creta, Seltos and Scorpio N

The Nissan Tecton will enter one of the most competitive SUV segments in India. It is expected to compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Mahindra Scorpio N, Tata Sierra, and other midsize SUVs.

The SUV will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai.

Nissan is also planning to export the Tecton to selected international markets.

Premium Design with a Strong SUV Look

Nissan is trying to give the Tecton a more premium and modern design compared to the Renault Duster.

While the Duster focuses on a rugged and muscular appearance, the Tecton aims for a classy SUV feel.

At the front, the SUV gets a larger grille with more chrome detailing.

The silver “bull-bar” style element seen on the front is smaller and blends better with the body design.

Nissan has also used more body-coloured elements to make the SUV look cleaner and more premium.

The Tecton will come with connected LED DRLs and LED taillights, with the Nissan logo placed in the center

. From the side, the SUV will have a similar upright stance as the Duster, giving it a traditional SUV appearance.

The ground clearance is expected to remain at 212 mm.

Nissan may also offer new 18-inch alloy wheels with 225-section tyres for a more stylish road presence.

Cabin Expected to Get Feature-Loaded Interior

Inside the cabin, the Nissan Tecton is expected to receive a fresh dashboard design along with new material and colour options.

However, many of the major features are likely to remain similar to the Duster.

Expected features include:

10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Google Assistant built-in

10.25-inch digital instrument cluster

Dual-zone automatic climate control

Ventilated and powered front seats

Panoramic sunroof

Powered tailgate

The SUV is also expected to offer several premium touches to attract buyers in the midsize SUV segment.

Safety and Engine Options

On the safety front, the Nissan Tecton could come with Level-2 ADAS features.

Other expected safety equipment includes a 360-degree camera, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

Under the hood, the SUV is likely to offer multiple engine options.

The standard variants may get a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, while higher trims could feature a more powerful 1.3-liter turbo petrol motor.

Nissan may also introduce a hybrid version powered by a 1.8-liter engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack, making the Tecton an even more attractive option for buyers looking for better fuel efficiency.
