If you’re planning an international trip from India, here’s an important update.

From September 1, 2026, passengers flying abroad will no longer receive immigration stamps on their physical boarding passes at international airports.

The move is aimed at making the immigration process faster and reducing inconvenience for travelers.

Show Your E-Boarding Pass Instead

Under the new system, passengers will need to show their e-boarding pass on their smartphone during immigration clearance.

This means travelers should keep their digital boarding pass saved on their mobile devices before reaching the airport.

However, paper boarding passes will still be accepted. The only change is that immigration officials will no longer stamp them.

Why Was This Change Introduced?

According to officials, many passengers faced problems because immigration stamps were often unclear or placed incorrectly on physical boarding passes. In some cases, the stamps made the boarding passes difficult to read.

After reviewing these issues, the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to remove the mandatory stamping of physical boarding passes.

CISF Already Stopped Stamping Boarding Passes

The CISF has not been stamping boarding passes during security checks for several years. Whether passengers are flying domestically or internationally, they only need to show their boarding pass for security verification.

The new immigration rule follows the same digital approach.

More Digital Changes May Be Introduced

The government is also working on another major change. Officials are planning to remove entry and exit immigration stamps from the passports of Indian travelers in the future.

A pilot project will be launched first. If it is successful, the new system could be rolled out at airports across the country.
