Delhi Traffic Police has prepared special arrangements for the 18th BRICS Summit 2026, which will be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
Traffic restrictions and diversions will be introduced in parts of the capital during the movement of foreign leaders and delegates.
Delhi Traffic Rules for BRICS Summit 2026
The entire Delhi will not be closed during the summit. However, traffic may be temporarily stopped or diverted on selected roads when VIP convoys move through the city.
The Delhi Traffic Police has created 22 diversion points to manage traffic and provide alternative routes. Roads around the hotels where BRICS delegates are staying may also see traffic controls when required.
Important routes that may be affected during VIP movements include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent/Marg and Mathura Road.
Traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place from September 11 to 13, depending on the movement schedule of foreign dignitaries.
What Commuters Need to Know
The traffic advisory covers routes affected by restrictions, diversion points and alternative roads. It also provides guidance for people travelling to airports and railway stations.
Passengers with flights between September 11 and 13 have been advised to leave early and allow additional travel time. Traffic may be stopped temporarily during the movement of VIP convoys.
The traffic police has advised commuters to check their routes before leaving, remain prepared for diversions and follow instructions given by traffic personnel. People are also encouraged to use the metro wherever possible.

Will Cabs and DTC Buses Operate?
Cab services including Uber, Ola, Rapido and Bharat Taxi will continue to operate. Delhi Police has held meetings with representatives of these services, but direct pickup and drop-off may not be available in restricted or controlled areas.
Cabs may have to use alternative routes, so passengers are advised to confirm the pickup and drop location with their driver before starting the journey.
DTC bus services will also not be completely suspended. The Delhi Police has shared its traffic plan with the DTC, and buses will continue to operate on permitted routes.
However, DTC buses may be diverted in restricted areas. Passengers could therefore see changes in their usual bus routes during the summit period.
Google Maps and Emergency Services
The Delhi Traffic Police has said that real-time information about traffic restrictions, diversions and alternative routes will be available through navigation platforms including Google Maps and Mappls.
Commuters can therefore check live route conditions before and during their journey and choose alternative routes if required.
Traffic restrictions may also be introduced temporarily in areas outside New Delhi if a foreign leader or delegation visits a market, tourist destination or another prominent location.
Vehicles coming from Delhi borders that are not headed for a destination in Delhi may face movement restrictions.
However, vehicles carrying essential commodities will be provided facilities at the border to help maintain essential supplies.
Emergency services will not be stopped because of the traffic arrangements. Special provisions have been made to ensure the movement of ambulances, fire services and other essential medical services.
People travelling to airports, railway stations, hotels and major parts of New Delhi between September 11 and 13 should plan their journeys in advance.
The key advice is to check traffic updates, allow extra time, use the metro where possible, confirm cab pickup and drop locations, monitor Google Maps or Mappls, and follow instructions from the traffic police.
