If you’re planning an international trip with IndiGo later this year, you may need to rethink your travel plans.
India’s largest airline has announced the temporary suspension of flights to six international destinations due to lower passenger demand and rising operating costs.
The affected routes include popular tourist destinations across Asia, including Hong Kong and Shanghai in China.
Flights to These Destinations Will Be Suspended
According to IndiGo, flights to Langkawi (Malaysia), Krabi (Thailand), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Hong Kong, and Shanghai will be suspended from July 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, flights to Siem Reap in Cambodia will remain suspended from July 3 to September 30, 2026.
These destinations are popular among Indian travelers, making the announcement important for those planning international vacations during this period.
Why Has IndiGo Taken This Decision?
In its official statement, IndiGo explained that passenger demand on these routes is usually lower between July and September. At the same time, international fuel prices and operating expenses have increased significantly.
The airline said that continuing operations on these routes during the low-demand season has become challenging. As a result, the company has decided to temporarily pause services to better balance costs and demand.
Flights May Return From October
There is some relief for travelers. IndiGo has clarified that the suspension is only temporary and not a permanent shutdown.
The airline plans to reopen bookings for all these routes from October 1, 2026, if market conditions improve. The company also said that services could resume even earlier if passenger demand remains stronger than expected.
No Major Impact on IndiGo’s Global Network
IndiGo emphasized that this move will not significantly affect its international operations. The airline currently operates more than 1,800 international flights every week, connecting India with major cities across the world.
According to the company, the route suspension is part of its long-term strategy to make better use of aircraft and operational resources.
Industry experts note that airlines regularly adjust their route networks based on demand and profitability.
Temporarily suspending flights on routes with low passenger traffic during off-peak seasons is a common business practice that helps control costs and improve efficiency.
What Should Passengers Do?
The decision may disappoint travelers who were planning trips to these destinations in the coming months.
However, IndiGo says the move is necessary to maintain operational stability and continue providing better services across its network.
Passengers are advised to check the airline’s official website or mobile app regularly for the latest updates before finalizing their travel plans.
