IndiGo has announced that it will temporarily stop its flight operations between India and Manchester starting August 31.
The decision comes as the airline faces rising international operational challenges, including longer flight routes and increasing costs.
Along with the suspension, IndiGo will also return one of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which it had taken on a wet/damp lease from Norse Atlantic Airways.
The airline has clarified that this move is temporary and does not affect its broader international expansion plans.
Why IndiGo Is Pausing Manchester Flights
IndiGo explained that several global factors have made the India–Manchester route more difficult to operate efficiently.
Key challenges include:
Longer flight times due to restricted airspace routes

Foreign exchange fluctuations increasing operating costs
These combined issues have significantly increased the cost of operating long-haul international flights.
As a result, maintaining the route has become financially challenging under current conditions.

IndiGo has assured that passengers booked on affected flights will not be left stranded.

The Original Plan Behind the Manchester Route

For this purpose, the airline leased six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways.
The goal was to strengthen its presence in Europe before introducing its own Airbus A350 fleet in the future.

The suspension, he clarified, is temporary and part of a broader adjustment to current global conditions.
