If you have a savings account in the post office, there is good news for you. India Post has started a new personalized checkbook service for Post Office Savings Account (POSA) holders.
Under this service, customers will receive checkbooks with their name, account number, and IFSC code already printed on them.
The new facility became effective from May 8, 2026. With this move, India Post is trying to offer customers a more modern and bank-like banking experience.
What Is Special About the New Checkbook?
Earlier, post office checkbooks did not come with the customer’s name or account details printed on them. Because of this, many people faced inconvenience while using them.
Now, the new personalized checkbooks will include important account details already printed. This will not only make transactions easier but will also improve security and reduce errors while writing cheques.
Another major benefit is home delivery. Customers will no longer need to visit the post office again and again to collect their checkbooks. The personalized checkbook will be delivered directly to the registered address.
How Can Customers Apply?
Customers who want a personalized checkbook will currently need to apply through the post office branch. India Post has also said that this facility will soon be available through internet banking and mobile banking services.
At the same time, the old-style instant checkbook service will continue. These instant checkbooks will not have printed account details and will only be available at post office counters.
Customers can choose either option depending on their needs.
Important Conditions You Should Know
There are a few conditions for getting a personalized checkbook:
Your mobile number must be linked with the account
The account should maintain at least ₹500 balance
A checkbook fee of ₹20 plus GST will be charged
Frozen or dormant accounts will not be eligible for this service
India Post has also clarified that if a checkbook cannot be delivered, it will return to the post office and remain there for 45 days. After that, the undelivered checkbook will be marked as spoiled in the system.
