Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport faced disruptions on Wednesday due to bad weather conditions across the national capital region.
Airline major IndiGo issued a travel advisory, warning passengers about possible delays and longer waiting times at the airport.
The airline said changing weather conditions were affecting flights arriving in and departing from Delhi.
“We understand that extended wait times may cause inconvenience,” IndiGo said in its advisory, while asking passengers to stay patient as teams work to reduce disruptions.
IndiGo Advises Passengers to Check Flight Status
IndiGo has urged travellers to check their latest flight status before leaving for the airport.
The airline said both crew members and ground staff are helping passengers during the delays and trying to make the waiting process smoother.
Weather-related disruptions often lead to:
Flight delays
Changes in boarding schedules
Longer aircraft holding times
Increased waiting at terminals
Passengers travelling through Delhi airport over the next few hours are advised to stay updated through airline notifications and airport announcements.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR
The disruption comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR for May 13 and May 14.
According to the weather department, the region may witness:
Thunderstorms
Lightning
Light rainfall
Gusty winds of 40–50 kmph
The IMD said light rain and thunderstorms are likely late on May 13 and during the early hours of May 14.
Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Delhi
The weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies for Delhi on May 14, along with chances of thunderstorms and light rain in isolated areas.
Wind speeds during thunderstorms may reach up to 50 kmph in some places.
Despite the rainfall forecast, temperatures are expected to remain high:
Maximum temperature: 38–40°C
Minimum temperature: 22–24°C
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of around 39.2°C on May 13.
The IMD has also warned that heatwave conditions could return to some parts of northwest India later this week after the current weather activity weakens.
