Large parts of India are currently facing intense heat.

In many states, temperatures have crossed 40°C, making conditions uncomfortable and even dangerous.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heatwave is especially severe in North India, including Delhi.

On April 24, Prayagraj recorded a scorching 45.2°C, making it the hottest place in the country.

The IMD has warned that regions like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh could face severe heatwave conditions for the next 2–3 days.

Temperatures in Uttar Pradesh may rise even further in the coming days.

Rain and Thunderstorms May Bring Relief

There is some good news amid the heat.

The IMD has predicted rain and thunderstorms in several regions, which could help bring temperatures down.

This change in weather may offer temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave.

Heavy Rain Alert in Northeast India

While North India battles heat, the northeastern states are preparing for heavy rainfall.

States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain between April 27 and 30.

There is also a warning of strong storms with winds reaching 50–60 km/h.

This raises the risk of:

Landslides in hilly areas

Flooding in low-lying regions

Weather to Turn Unstable in Eastern States

The weather may worsen in eastern regions as well.

States like West Bengal, Sikkim, and Jharkhand could see unstable conditions.

A hailstorm is expected in Jharkhand on April 26, which could impact crops and daily life.

Hot and Humid Conditions in the South

In southern states, the problem is different.

Regions like Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu will continue to face hot and humid weather.

This can increase discomfort, especially during the day.

Safety Tips: What You Should Do

The IMD has issued some important advice:

For heatwave areas:

Avoid going out in the afternoon

Drink plenty of water

Stay indoors as much as possible

For heavy rain regions:

Stay away from waterlogged areas

Follow traffic and safety advisories

Farmers have also been advised to protect crops and prepare for possible hailstorms and heavy rain.

The Bottom Line

India is currently facing extreme and mixed weather conditions.

While some areas are dealing with intense heat, others are preparing for heavy rain and storms.

Staying alert and following safety guidelines will be key in the coming days.
