No Fuel for Vehicles without PUC in Delhi

Delhi is tightening its grip on air pollution—and this time, it’s hitting vehicle owners directly.

The government has announced that vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will no longer be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps or CNG stations.

This rule will now be enforced permanently across the city.

No PUC, No Fuel

Under the new directive, fuel stations in Delhi must check for a valid PUC certificate before filling fuel.

If your vehicle’s certificate has expired or is missing, you simply won’t get petrol or CNG.

Authorities have been told to follow this rule strictly, with zero tolerance for violations.

Why This Rule Is Important

As per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, every vehicle must have a valid PUC certificate after one year of registration.

But many vehicles in Delhi continue to run without it, adding to the city’s already severe pollution problem.

By enforcing this rule at fuel stations, the government aims to reduce harmful emissions and push vehicle owners to stay compliant.

Multiple Agencies on High Alert

To make sure the rule is followed properly, several departments have been put on duty.

These include:

Transport Department

Food and Supplies Department

Municipal Corporation (MCD)

Traffic Police

All of them will monitor fuel stations and take strict action if rules are ignored.

Linked to Anti-Pollution Action Plan

This move also supports the guidelines of the Commission for Air Quality Management under its GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan).

The plan allows strict measures against polluting vehicles, including fines and even vehicle seizure in serious cases.

What the Government Says

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has urged citizens to keep their PUC certificates updated.

According to her, controlling pollution requires strong and consistent action—and public cooperation is key.

How to Get a PUC Certificate

Getting a PUC certificate is simple and quick.

Visit an authorized emission testing center (often at petrol pumps)

A technician will test your vehicle’s emissions

If it meets the standards, you’ll receive a certificate

Pay the required fee and collect your copy

You can also check your PUC status online through the Parivahan portal.

What This Means for You

If you drive in Delhi, this rule directly affects you.

Without a valid PUC certificate, your vehicle won’t get fuel.

Keeping your documents updated is no longer optional—it’s essential.

This step may feel strict, but it’s part of a bigger push to clean up Delhi’s air and make the city healthier for everyone.
