JSW MG Motor has introduced a new, more affordable variant of its popular Windsor EV. Called the MG Windsor Commute, this version is specially designed for fleet buyers.
It comes with an ex-showroom price of ₹13.49 lakh, making it ₹61,000 cheaper than the base Excite variant.
The company is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. This allows buyers to pay for the battery separately, reducing the initial cost of the car.
Battery, Range and Charging Details
The MG Windsor Commute comes with a 38 kWh battery pack, similar to the Excite variant. It offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 332 kilometers on a full charge.
Charging is quite convenient. Using a 7.4 kW AC charger, the battery can be charged from 10 to 100 percent in about 7 hours. If you use a fast 45 kW DC charger, the battery can go from 20 to 80 percent in just 45 minutes.
Exterior and Interior Features
On the outside, the car includes LED projector headlights, turn indicators on the ORVMs, and flush door handles. However, to keep costs low, it comes with 17-inch steel wheels instead of alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin gets a simple black theme with some gold accents. The seats are covered in fabric, giving it a practical and durable feel.
Basic Features with Practical Focus
The car includes a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster, but misses out on the larger 10.1-inch touchscreen seen in higher variants. Instead, it offers a basic infotainment system with USB, FM radio, and Bluetooth support.
Other features include manual air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and multiple USB charging ports. Rear seats can recline, adding to passenger comfort.
In terms of safety, the EV comes with dual airbags, four disc brakes, hill-hold assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and three-point seatbelts.
MG IM6 Launch Coming Soon
MG Motor is also preparing to launch a new premium electric car, the MG IM6, in India around August. Bookings are likely to start in July, and the car will be sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
Globally, the IM6 is offered with a 100 kWh battery. It comes in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
The rear-wheel-drive version delivers 401 bhp and 500 Nm torque, with a claimed range of up to 625 km. The all-wheel-drive version is much more powerful, producing 741 bhp and 802 Nm torque, with a range of up to 505 km.
