If you are an SBI customer, read this news carefully. A message is spreading quickly on social media and WhatsApp claiming that if you do not update your Aadhaar immediately, your SBI YONO app will be blocked.
This has worried millions of YONO users, and some people are even thinking of downloading the file out of fear. However, the truth is different.
PIB Fact Check has clearly said that this message is completely fake and part of a scam designed to steal users’ banking information.
What the Viral Message Claims
The fake message says: “Your Aadhaar is not updated, so your YONO account will be blocked starting tonight.” It also includes an APK file and asks users to install it on their phone.
Scammers want people to download this file. Once installed, malware or spyware can activate on the phone. This may expose your OTP, UPI PIN, bank passwords, and card details to fraudsters.
PIB Fact Check Warning
PIB Fact Check has confirmed that this message is fake. It has clearly stated that State Bank of India never sends APK files through WhatsApp, SMS, or email for Aadhaar updates.
SBI has also warned customers on its official social media accounts not to trust such links, files, or messages.
Correct Ways to Update Aadhaar
If you need to update your Aadhaar details (name, address, mobile number, or biometric data), use only official methods:
Method 1: Online via UIDAI website
You can update some details, such as your address, from home through the official UIDAI website. Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar, and verification is done through OTP.
Method 2: At an Aadhaar Service Centre
To update your mobile number, photo, or biometrics, visit the nearest authorized Aadhaar centre. The update will be done after you provide your Aadhaar number and required documents.
Safe Ways to Update KYC in SBI
If SBI asks you to update your KYC, follow these secure options:
Method 1: Visit an SBI Branch
Go to your home branch or nearest SBI branch, fill out the KYC form, and submit the necessary documents.
Method 2: SBI Official Website
Log in to SBI’s official website and update KYC details (where this facility is available).
Method 3: YONO App Secure Section
If the KYC update option is available in the YONO app, log in directly and complete the process there.
Why This Scam Is Dangerous
Such fake APK apps often contain hidden malware. After installation, scammers may gain full control of your phone. They can access banking details, UPI PIN, OTPs, debit or credit card data, contacts, and even your photo gallery.
This puts your bank account, UPI, and wallet apps at serious risk.
