Karnataka has announced a new scheme to encourage companies to create more jobs in the state’s most economically backward areas.

Under the Udyoga Nidhi scheme, businesses that create eligible new jobs in the state’s 10 most backward districts will receive an incentive of ₹2,500 per job every month for two years.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced the scheme during his Independence Day address.

The government expects the initiative to create around one lakh new jobs.

Companies Can Get Up to ₹60,000 Per New Job

The incentive will be paid for a maximum period of two years.

This means a business could receive up to ₹60,000 for each qualifying new job created during the full two-year period.

The main aim is to encourage companies to expand into districts that have not benefited as much from Karnataka’s economic growth as Bengaluru and other major industrial centres.

The government is also preparing a separate incentive package to attract industries to economically backward taluks.

Focus on Karnataka’s 10 Most Backward Districts

Udyoga Nidhi specifically targets the state’s 10 most backward districts.

The government wants to spread investment and employment opportunities beyond Bengaluru and other established technology and industrial hubs.

The broader goal is to reduce the economic gap between different parts of Karnataka and create more local employment opportunities.

Government Targets One Lakh New Jobs

The Karnataka government expects Udyoga Nidhi to generate approximately one lakh jobs over the next two years.

The scheme is part of the state’s larger Chief Minister’s Jobs Mission, which includes both private-sector employment and recruitment for vacant government posts.

The government has already started the recruitment process for around 72,000 key government vacancies, with notifications for these posts expected within six months.

New Digital Platform to Connect Job Seekers and Companies

Karnataka is also preparing to launch Yuva Udyoga Setu, a digital platform designed to connect job seekers with employers and educational institutions.

The platform is expected to help young people find private-sector job opportunities more easily.

At the same time, companies will be able to use the platform to find suitable candidates.

100 ITIs to Become Employment-Focused Campuses

The government is also planning to transform 100 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into employment-oriented campuses.

The initiative will be carried out in partnership with private companies and is expected to benefit around 10,000 young people.

The focus will be on providing skills that match the actual requirements of employers.

₹4,291 Crore Set Aside for Backward Areas

Karnataka has allocated ₹4,291 crore for 2026-27 for balanced regional development.

The allocation is based on recommendations from the Prof Govind Rao Committee, which examined 236 taluks.

The government aims to use such targeted spending to direct more development funds towards economically weaker regions.

₹20,000 Crore Manufacturing Cluster Planned Near Bengaluru

Karnataka is also working on an Advanced Manufacturing Cluster at Doddaballapura, near Kempegowda International Airport.

Investment commitments of around ₹20,000 crore have already been secured for the project.

The manufacturing cluster is expected to create nearly one lakh jobs.

The state is also planning additional technology and industrial hubs in cities outside Bengaluru.

Will ₹2,500 Be Enough to Attract Companies?

The success of Udyoga Nidhi will depend on whether the incentive is strong enough to influence companies’ hiring and expansion decisions.

For a company planning to set up operations in a less-developed district, an incentive of up to ₹60,000 per new employee over two years could help reduce some of the initial employment costs.

However, money alone may not determine where a company invests.

Factors such as infrastructure, availability of skilled workers, transportation, logistics and access to markets will also play an important role.

Karnataka’s Bigger Plan to Create Jobs Beyond Bengaluru

Udyoga Nidhi is one part of Karnataka’s larger employment strategy.

Along with incentives for private companies, the government is focusing on filling government vacancies, connecting young job seekers with employers and improving skill development through ITIs.

The bigger objective is to ensure that Karnataka’s economic growth is not concentrated only around Bengaluru.

If the Udyoga Nidhi scheme achieves its target of one lakh new jobs, it could become an important tool for attracting businesses to less-developed districts and creating more employment opportunities for local youth.
