Good news for Lucknow Metro passengers using the existing GoSmart Card.
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has opened a 30-day special exchange window for GoSmart Card holders.
During this period, passengers can exchange their existing card for a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) without paying any issuance fee.
The facility is available at all Lucknow Metro stations.
Passengers should note that the existing GoSmart Card, along with other cards such as Tourist Cards and Super Saver Cards, is being phased out.
The NCMC will become the main mobility card for Lucknow Metro users.
How Can GoSmart Card Holders Get the NCMC?
The exchange process is simple.
Passengers are advised to first use the remaining balance on their GoSmart Card.
Once the balance is used up, they can surrender the old card at a Lucknow Metro station.
During the 30-day exchange period, they will receive the new NCMC free of cost.
This means existing GoSmart Card holders do not have to pay the usual issuance charge when exchanging their cards during the special window.
What Is NCMC and Why Is It Useful?
The NCMC, popularly known as ‘One Nation One Card’, is designed to work across multiple participating transport systems.
Instead of carrying different cards for different services, passengers can use a single NCMC wherever NCMC interoperability is available.
The card can be used for payments on participating metro networks, buses, parking facilities and retail outlets.
For Lucknow Metro passengers, there is an additional benefit. NCMC users will get a 10% discount on every Lucknow Metro journey.
NCMC Charges and Top-Up Limits
Passengers who get an NCMC outside the special exchange offer will have to pay an issuance charge of ₹100.
This charge is non-refundable.
The cards are available through designated Airtel Payments Bank counters and kiosks at Lucknow Metro stations.
The minimum amount that can be added to the card is ₹100, while the maximum top-up limit is ₹2,000.
GoSmart Card Users Should Not Miss the Exchange Window
UPMRC is encouraging existing GoSmart Card users to make the switch during the special 30-day period to get the NCMC completely free of cost.
Since GoSmart Cards and other existing Lucknow Metro card options are being discontinued, passengers who regularly use the metro should plan their switch accordingly.
The NCMC is intended to make travel more convenient by allowing passengers to use one card across multiple participating transport services.
