Lucknow Metro has announced good news for passengers using GoSmart cards.
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is now offering a free exchange of GoSmart cards for National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC).
The move aims to make metro travel easier and give passengers access to a card that can be used across multiple transport services.
Free Card Exchange Available for 30 Days
The special card exchange drive started on Monday and will continue for one month.
Passengers can visit any Lucknow Metro station and exchange their old GoSmart card for a new NCMC card at no cost.
However, they must first use the remaining balance available on their GoSmart card.
Once the balance becomes zero, passengers can surrender the old card at a metro station and receive the new NCMC card free of charge.
What is the NCMC Card?
The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), also known as the “One Nation One Card,” can be used for metro travel as well as other transport and payment services.
The card also gives Lucknow Metro passengers a 10% discount on every metro ride, making daily travel more affordable.
Old Metro Cards to Be Discontinued
With the introduction of the NCMC card, Lucknow Metro will gradually discontinue its existing cards, including the GoSmart Card, Tourist Card, and Super Saver Card.
Passengers are encouraged to switch to the new card during the 30-day exchange period to continue enjoying seamless metro services.
UPMRC Wants to Make Travel Simpler
UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said the new NCMC card is a step towards making daily travel more convenient for Lucknow residents.
He added that the goal is to replace multiple travel cards with one card that works across different transport systems, and urged all GoSmart card users to take advantage of the free exchange facility.
