Russia is looking for talented professionals from around the world, including India. To attract skilled people, the country has introduced a new Talent Visa.
The visa program officially started on April 15, 2026, and the application process is now open.
The new visa is designed for professionals such as scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, and other skilled workers who can contribute to Russia’s growth.
What is Russia’s Talent Visa?
Under this scheme, applicants must first apply to be officially recognized as a person whose skills are important for Russia.
Once approved, they can apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) without waiting for quota availability. They also do not have to pass the usual Russian language, history, or law exams.
In some cases, eligible applicants can even apply directly for permanent residency without first obtaining temporary residence.
Russia also offers multiple-entry business visas valid for up to one year for approved applicants and their eligible family members.
Who Can Apply?
The Talent Visa is different from a regular skilled worker visa. It is meant for people who have proven achievements or valuable experience in important fields.
Eligible sectors include:
Science and Technology
Manufacturing
Sports
Creative Industries
Culture and Humanities
Education
Business and Entrepreneurship
Professionals working in high-demand sectors such as IT, mining, transportation, construction, tourism, healthcare, agriculture, telecommunications, data processing, environmental services,
and energy may also qualify if they meet the required education and work experience criteria.
For some occupations, applicants may need at least five years of work experience along with a relevant higher education qualification.
Key Benefits of the Talent Visa
The Talent Visa offers several advantages for eligible applicants.
They can apply for a three-year Temporary Residence Permit without any quota restrictions or choose to apply directly for permanent residency.
Another major benefit is that Russian companies can hire eligible foreign professionals and their family members without obtaining special government approval.
Applicants are also allowed to start working while their residency application is being processed, without needing a separate work permit.
For skilled Indian professionals looking to build a career abroad, Russia’s new Talent Visa could provide a faster and simpler route to live and work in the country.
