LPG customers have received some relief as the government has changed the refill booking rule. Consumers will now be able to book their next LPG cylinder after 25 days instead of waiting for 45 days.
The new system came into effect on Monday, September 7. The change applies to both rural and urban areas and is expected to make LPG refills easier for households.
LPG Refill Waiting Period Cut to 25 Days
Earlier, a longer waiting period was introduced due to gas supply concerns. In some areas, consumers had to wait as long as 45 days before booking another LPG cylinder.
Under the revised rule, the refill booking gap has now been reduced to 25 days. This means consumers who use more cooking gas will not have to wait as long for their next cylinder.
What Did Union Minister Suresh Gopi Say?
Union Minister Suresh Gopi said in a social media post on September 7 that oil marketing companies (OMCs) had been directed to implement the revised system immediately.
He explained that supply pressure linked to the ongoing situation in the Middle East had earlier led to restrictions on LPG refill bookings. The waiting period was 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas.
Why Was the 45-Day Rule Introduced?
The longer booking gap was introduced amid concerns over gas supplies and disruption linked to the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.
The restriction created difficulties for households that use LPG cylinders more frequently. Rural consumers were particularly affected because they had to wait longer to book another refill.
What Changes for LPG Customers Now?
With the new rule, both rural and urban customers can book another LPG refill after 25 days. Rural customers will therefore see their waiting period fall by 20 days, from 45 days to 25 days.
The change is expected to provide relief to families with higher cooking gas requirements and make LPG refill booking more convenient.
