The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a major change to make FASTag issuance and usage easier.
From February 1, 2026, the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) verification will no longer be required for new FASTags issued for cars, jeeps, and vans.
This move aims to reduce delays, remove repeated document submissions, and address common complaints from users.
What Was KYV and Why Is It Removed?
KYV was an extra step to ensure that each FASTag was linked to the correct vehicle and to prevent duplicate or incorrect tags.
However, in practice, KYV often caused delays and repeated verification requests, even for users with valid documents.
Drivers had to upload RCs, send photos, and wait for re-verification, which slowed down FASTag activation.
To solve this, NHAI has decided to remove the KYV process for new FASTags.
What Changes for Drivers?
Under the new rules:
Banks handle all vehicle verification before issuing the FASTag
Verification is done via the VAHAN database, or through the Registration Certificate (RC) if needed
No separate KYV step is required for new FASTags
Existing FASTag holders also no longer need regular KYV checks
Rechecks will only happen in cases of complaints, misuse, or incorrect issuance
Benefits for Common Drivers
This update makes FASTags faster and hassle-free:
Tags can be used immediately after receipt
No repeated uploads of documents or visits to banks
Verification only happens when there’s a specific complaint
The change will save time, reduce frustration, and make highway travel smoother for all FASTag users.
