Good news for railway passengers! You can now get travel insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh for just 45 paise.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced a new travel insurance policy with a premium of only 45 paise per passenger.
While this insurance is optional, once selected, it becomes mandatory for all passengers traveling under the same PNR (Passenger Name Record).
This scheme is available only for Indian citizens who book their tickets online.
Who Can Apply?
This insurance is exclusively for Indian citizens who book e-tickets through IRCTC.
Foreign nationals and those who book tickets through agents or other travel agencies cannot access this insurance.
Children under 5 years old who book tickets without a seat are not included in the coverage. However, children aged 5 to 11 will be covered if their tickets are booked with or without a seat.
Sum Assured and Benefits
The insurance policy offers benefits divided into four categories:
Transportation of Dead Body: Up to ₹10,000 for transporting a body after a railway accident or other incidents.
Hospitalization Expenses for Injury: Coverage up to ₹2 lakh for hospitalization expenses due to injury.
Permanent Partial Disability: 75% of the insured amount, which can go up to ₹7,50,000.
Permanent Total Disability: In the event of an accident, 100% of the sum insured, up to ₹10 lakh, will be provided for permanent total disability.
Death: In case of accidental death during travel, the nominee will receive up to ₹10 lakh, which is 100% of the sum assured.
How to Get Insurance
Passengers will receive insurance details through SMS and email. They can check their policy number and other information in their ticket booking history.
It’s important to fill in nominee details after booking tickets on the insurance company’s website.
If nomination details are not provided, claims will be paid to the legal heirs.
This insurance policy applies only to confirmed and RAC ticket holders and is designed to protect passengers in case of accidents or unforeseen events during travel.
