There is good news for around 6.5 lakh post office account holders in the district.

The Postal Department has introduced a new facility that allows customers to deposit and withdraw money using only their Aadhaar card.

This means account holders no longer need to carry their passbook for basic transactions.

The service is now available at the main post office, sub-post offices, and rural branch post offices, making banking more convenient for people across the district.

Aadhaar-Based Transactions Now Available

The new facility has been launched under the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS).

Similar to services offered by many banks, AEPS allows customers to access their accounts using their Aadhaar number and biometric verification.

With this system, account holders can easily withdraw or deposit cash without presenting a passbook.

This is especially helpful for people living in rural areas, where visiting a bank branch may not always be convenient.

No Worries If Your Passbook Is Lost

One of the biggest advantages of this service is that banking activities can continue even if a passbook is lost, damaged, or unavailable.

Customers can simply verify their identity through biometrics and complete their transactions.

The district currently has two main post offices and 54 sub-post offices.

The facility is also being extended to branch post offices in villages, ensuring wider access for rural residents.

According to Postal Superintendent Anoop Agarwal, around 6.5 lakh account holders are expected to benefit from this initiative.

He also assured customers that the Aadhaar-based transaction system is completely secure, as every transaction is processed only after biometric verification.
