The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for September 2 as the monsoon remains active across the country.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in more than 15 states and union territories.
Apart from rain, several regions may also witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds due to a low-pressure area and active monsoon systems.
Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and MP on High Alert
According to the IMD, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive the heaviest rainfall on September 2.
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in these states.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely, and people have been advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall.
Delhi, UP, Bihar and Other Plains to See Heavy Rain
Rain activity is expected to increase across the northern plains, including Delhi.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Vidarbha, and western Madhya Pradesh.
Strong winds of 30-40 kmph along with thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and eastern Rajasthan.
Hill States and Northeast to Continue Receiving Rain
The hilly regions are also expected to witness wet weather.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are forecast for parts of Himachal Pradesh and the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh region. Uttarakhand will remain under a heavy rainfall warning.
In the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive heavy rain at several places.
Strong Winds Expected in Coastal Areas
South India and coastal regions may also experience changing weather conditions.
The IMD has warned of gusty winds of 40-50 kmph with thunderstorms and lightning in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, and Rayalaseema.
Meanwhile, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, and Telangana may experience strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph.
Fishermen Advised to Avoid the Sea
The IMD has also issued a warning for rough sea conditions.
In parts of the Arabian Sea, including areas near the Somalia and Oman coasts, winds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected.
Similar wind speeds are likely over the Gulf of Mannar, the south Tamil Nadu coast, and the southwest Bay of Bengal near South Sri Lanka.
The weather department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until conditions improve.
