Indian ChatGPT users are set to see a major change. OpenAI has introduced ads on ChatGPT in India, which means some users may now see sponsored content while using the AI chatbot.

The ads will mainly appear for users on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans. Sponsored content may be related to the question a user is asking or the conversation they are having.

Companies will be able to promote their products, services, and websites through these ads.

ChatGPT Ads Arrive in India

India is a large and fast-growing market for ChatGPT, making it an important country for OpenAI’s advertising plans.

Under the new system, businesses will be able to run advertising campaigns on ChatGPT.

For example, if someone is asking about a particular product or service, they may see a relevant sponsored ad alongside the conversation.

However, these ads will be shown separately from ChatGPT’s answers and will be clearly identified as sponsored content.

Why ChatGPT Ads Matter for Businesses

ChatGPT ads could open a new advertising opportunity for brands and businesses.

Many people use ChatGPT to research products, compare options, and get information before making a purchase.

This means businesses may be able to reach potential customers at a time when they are already looking for information about a product or service.

Both large companies and smaller businesses could use the platform to promote their offerings to interested users.

Ad Budget Starts at Rs 725

Businesses in India will reportedly be able to start advertising on ChatGPT with a daily budget of ₹725.

Self-service access to the ChatGPT Ads Manager in India is expected to begin from September 4, 2026.

This could make the advertising platform accessible to smaller companies and startups as well.

Will Advertisers See Your Chats?

Privacy is likely to be one of the biggest concerns for ChatGPT users.

People may wonder whether advertisers can read their conversations to decide which ads to show.

OpenAI says users’ conversations will remain private from advertisers. Companies running ads will not be given access to private ChatGPT conversations.

Ads are separate from ChatGPT’s responses, and advertisers do not get access to users’ private chats or personal conversation data.
