If you are planning to travel on the Srinagar–Jammu Highway, make sure to check the latest traffic rules before starting your journey.
The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have introduced new vehicle movement restrictions ahead of the Amarnath Yatra 2026 to ensure smooth traffic management and the safe movement of Yatra convoys.
Under the new advisory, heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will not be allowed on the highway after 7 pm starting today.
Light motor vehicles (LMVs), including private cars and passenger vehicles, can continue travelling until 11 pm.
Authorities have also clarified that HMVs will not be allowed to move after 7 pm from Qazigund towards Jammu and from Jakheni in Udhampur towards Srinagar.
Traffic Movement to Depend on Yatra Convoys
According to the police, heavy vehicles will be allowed to operate only on alternate days based on traffic conditions.
Private vehicles and LMVs will be permitted to move in phases after the Amarnath Yatra convoy passes important locations such as Jakheni and Marog.
Regular traffic movement will be restored once the convoy completely clears these points.
Transporters carrying essential goods, including perishable items and livestock, have been advised to plan their trips in advance to avoid delays.
Travellers should also keep valid identity proof with them, as authorities may conduct checks during restricted hours.
Special Travel Advisory for Gulmarg Tourists
The traffic police have also issued a separate advisory for tourists travelling to and from Gulmarg during the Yatra period.
As per the guidelines, tourist vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Gulmarg to Srinagar after 5 pm.
Likewise, vehicles heading from Srinagar to Gulmarg will also not be permitted to travel after 5 pm throughout the pilgrimage period.
Officials have urged tourists and travel operators to follow the revised timings and plan their journeys accordingly.
The restrictions have been put in place to ensure efficient traffic management and the smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra 2026.
