In a move towards digital transformation, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has announced the impending launch of a WhatsApp-based bus ticketing system in the capital city.
The trial run for this innovative project is scheduled to commence around January 15, with the full-fledged system expected to be operational within one or two months.
Key Highlights:
1. Collaboration with WhatsApp: The Delhi government has partnered with WhatsApp for this initiative, which exclusively involves digital transactions.
Users can opt for either the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or a digital ticket, contributing to the broader push towards digital payments.
2. Eliminating Cash Handling Issues: By embracing a digital ticketing system, the government aims to address issues related to pilferage and theft associated with cash handling.
This move aligns with the larger goal of promoting secure and transparent financial transactions.
3. Similarity to Delhi Metro System: The WhatsApp-based bus ticketing system is anticipated to operate on similar lines to the existing model used for the Delhi Metro.
Notably, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) already introduced a WhatsApp-based ticketing system in May 2023, which has been successfully extended to cover all metro corridors, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro.
How It Works:
The WhatsApp-based metro ticketing system has streamlined the ticket-purchasing process for passengers, offering convenience and efficiency. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Initiate Interaction: Send a message with the text “Hi” to +91 9650855800, or scan the provided QR code at any metro station.
- Language Selection: Choose your preferred language (English or Hindi).
- Ticket Purchase: Tap on “Buy Ticket” and input your journey details, specifying the number of tickets required.
- Review and Pay: Review the source and destination stations before proceeding to the payment stage. You will receive a payment link.
- Generate Ticket: After payment, a QR-based ticket is generated on WhatsApp, remaining valid for the entire day of purchase. Passengers have a 65-minute window to exit the metro station after entering.
With this forward-looking initiative, Delhi aims to enhance the public transportation experience by embracing the efficiency and simplicity offered by digital ticketing solutions.
