The southwest monsoon has become active once again as a low-pressure area develops over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the Odisha-West Bengal coast.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this weather system is expected to strengthen over the next two days, bringing widespread rainfall across several parts of the country.
The IMD has issued rain alerts for 22 states, warning of light to heavy rainfall along with strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 70 kmph in some areas.
Monsoon to Bring Heavy Rain in Several Regions
The IMD said the low-pressure system will likely move towards northern Odisha and the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, leading to increased rainfall across eastern and northeastern India.
Over the next seven days, rainfall is expected to increase in:

Bihar
Jharkhand
Himachal Pradesh
Uttarakhand
Jammu and Kashmir
Northeastern states
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, rainfall is expected to remain below normal over west-central India, south peninsular India for the next seven days, and northwest India for the next five days.

Delhi to Remain Hot Despite Light Rain
Some parts of Delhi received light drizzle on Wednesday morning, but it was not enough to provide lasting relief from the heat.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thursday, warning of hot and humid weather.
The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, while the maximum temperature may touch 40°C.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase across Uttar Pradesh over the coming days.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely between July 17 and July 21.
Western Uttar Pradesh: Scattered rain is expected from July 16 to July 18, while heavy rainfall is likely between July 19 and July 21.
Thunderstorms and strong winds of 40 to 60 kmph are also possible.
Bihar, Uttarakhand and Himachal on Heavy Rain Watch
Bihar: Rain is expected across most parts of the state from July 16 to July 20.
Heavy rainfall is likely between July 18 and July 20, with thunderstorms possible in several districts.
Uttarakhand: Widespread rainfall is forecast from July 16 to July 21.
Heavy rain is expected on July 20 and July 21.
Himachal Pradesh: Rain is likely to continue until July 21.
The intensity is expected to increase after July 18, with heavy rainfall forecast on July 20 and July 21.
Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir Forecast
Jharkhand: Heavy rain is expected until July 18, while most districts are likely to receive rainfall until July 21.
Thunderstorms and strong winds may also occur.
Jammu and Kashmir: Rainfall activity is expected to increase from July 18.
Heavy rain is likely between July 19 and July 21, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 40 to 60 kmph.
