Air India has introduced a new low-cost ticket option called the Basic Fare, giving passengers more flexibility to choose flights according to their budget.
The new fare is designed for travelers who want to save money and do not need extra services such as complimentary meals during the journey.
What’s Included in the New Basic Fare?
The Basic Fare is currently available on select domestic routes and is only offered in Economy Class.
Passengers booking this fare will get:
15kg checked-in baggage allowance
7kg cabin baggage allowance
Complimentary tea and coffee during the flight
However, free meals will not be included. By removing meal costs, Air India is able to offer tickets at a lower price.
More Choice for Different Types of Travelers
Until now, Air India offered three fare categories — Value, Classic, and Flex. These options include meals and additional services.
With the launch of the Basic Fare, passengers now have a fourth option that focuses on affordability.
According to the airline, different travelers have different priorities. While some passengers prefer extra comfort and services, others simply want the lowest possible ticket price. The new fare has been introduced to meet both needs.
Meals Can Still Be Purchased Separately
Passengers who choose the Basic Fare can still order meals if they want.
Meals can be pre-booked up to 24 hours before departure. Available options include:
Vegetarian meals
Non-vegetarian meals
Jain meals
Diabetic-friendly meals
If a flight is rescheduled, any pre-booked meal will either be transferred to the new flight or the passenger will receive a full refund.
Currently Being Tested on Select Routes
Air India has clarified that the Basic Fare is currently being offered as a pilot project on certain domestic routes.
The airline will monitor passenger response and demand before deciding whether to expand the fare option to more routes across the country.
