SBI Cash Withdrawal Rules will change from October 1, 2026, for customers holding Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD), Jan Dhan and other eligible zero-balance basic savings accounts opened through SBI branches.
After the monthly free withdrawal limit is exhausted, customers will have to pay a charge for every additional cash withdrawal from an ATM or bank branch.
The revised rules apply only to eligible BSBD accounts and are aimed at cash withdrawal transactions. Customers who frequently use digital payment methods will not be affected by this change.
SBI Cash Withdrawal Rules
According to SBI’s public notice, eligible BSBD account holders will be allowed four free cash withdrawal transactions in a calendar month.
These four free transactions can be made either through an SBI branch, an ATM, or a combination of both.
From the fifth cash withdrawal onward, SBI will charge ₹15 per transaction along with applicable GST.
At the current GST rate of 18%, the total charge works out to around ₹17.70 for every additional withdrawal.
For example, if a customer withdraws cash five times in a month, the first four withdrawals will remain free.
The fifth withdrawal will attract a charge of ₹15 plus GST. The same charge will apply to every additional withdrawal during that month.
Digital Transactions Remain Free
SBI has clarified that the revised charges apply only to cash withdrawals beyond the free monthly limit.
Customers can continue using UPI, internet banking, mobile banking, NEFT and RTGS without any restriction under this rule. These digital payment services will remain free and unlimited,
and no additional transaction fee will be charged for using them.
What Is a BSBD Account?
A Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account is designed to provide basic banking services to customers without requiring them to maintain a minimum balance.
These accounts offer essential banking facilities similar to a regular savings account but come with limits on certain services, including the number of free cash withdrawal transactions available each month.
What SBI Customers Should Do
Customers who regularly withdraw cash should keep track of their monthly withdrawal count after the new rule comes into effect on October 1, 2026.
Using UPI, debit cards and other digital payment options instead of cash wherever possible can help avoid the additional withdrawal charges.
