Monsoon Covers Kerala, Karnataka and Northeast States

The southwest monsoon is moving quickly across India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), by Sunday, the monsoon had reached 12 states.

It has now fully covered Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram.

At the same time, several parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are witnessing pre-monsoon rainfall.

On Sunday, rain and hailstorms were reported in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district. In Madhya Pradesh, strong winds caused an auto-rickshaw to overturn on the Indore-Khandwa highway.

Storm Damages Three Air India Aircraft in Delhi

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain also affected operations at Delhi Airport. Three Air India narrowbody aircraft were damaged after coming into contact with ground support equipment during the storm.

Following the incident, all three aircraft have been grounded for inspection and safety checks.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in Delhi-NCR have started changing again. After a brief relief, temperatures are rising,

and the mercury may touch 45°C in the coming days. The IMD has warned that heatwave-like conditions could develop next week.

Monsoon Reaches Northeast, More States Likely to Receive Rain Soon

This year, the monsoon reached Kerala on June 4, three days later than usual. However, it has advanced rapidly since then, covering 12 states within just four days.

On Sunday, the monsoon entered the northeastern states of Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. A day earlier, it had already reached Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, and Manipur.

According to the IMD, many areas of Kerala are likely to receive heavy rainfall between June 7 and June 9. Lakshadweep may also experience heavy rain on June 7 and 8.

Weather officials say the monsoon is expected to continue its advance over the next three to four days without major obstacles.

It is likely to spread further across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
