Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has launched the new Honda NX500 adventure tourer with E-Clutch technology in the Indian market. The bike is priced at ₹7.44 lakh (ex-showroom).
The biggest highlight of this motorcycle is its E-Clutch system, which allows riders to change gears without using the clutch lever. Despite this new feature, Honda has not changed the bike’s design or overall mechanical setup.
What Is Honda’s E-Clutch Technology?
The Honda NX500 uses two electronic actuators in its E-Clutch system. These actuators automatically control the clutch during gear shifts, making riding easier, especially in traffic and during long tours.
The system also works when the motorcycle stops and starts moving again. However, riders still have the option to ride the bike in the traditional way by using the clutch lever and gear pedal manually whenever they want.
Because of this new technology, the bike’s weight has increased by 3 kg. The Honda NX500 now weighs 199 kg.
Honda had earlier launched the CB650R and CBR650R with E-Clutch technology as well. However, all units from the earlier batch have already been sold out and those models are currently unavailable for purchase.
Honda NX500 Engine and Performance
The Honda NX500 continues with the same engine setup as before. It is powered by a 471cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.
This engine produces 47 hp power at 8,500 rpm and 43 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. The motorcycle comes with a 6-speed gearbox, although Honda has slightly updated the clutch setup for the new E-Clutch system.
Suspension, Brakes and Features
For suspension duties, the NX500 gets upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock setup. The bike rides on a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear alloy wheel.
Braking performance is handled by dual-channel ABS along with twin 296mm front disc brakes and radially mounted Nissin calipers. At the rear, the bike gets a 240mm single disc brake with a single-piston caliper.
The motorcycle also comes with a 5-inch TFT display and simple, durable switchgear.
In terms of features, the NX500 keeps things basic. It offers dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control, but misses out on advanced riding modes
and extra electronic gadgets. The bike also uses a cable-operated throttle instead of a ride-by-wire system.
